In the beginning of this chapter Kino and Juana are getting ready to sell the pearl. Kino is worried about being cheated due to his lack of knowledge about the worth of the pearl. Kino is angry at the offers presented to him by the appraisers. Tomas warns Kino about going to the capital to sell his pearl. Later on that night Kino is assauted, but is still adament about his plan.
